Hi Sapna
if you are more market savvy or you have good knowledge of companies, their background etc...then you can surely invest in stocks ....but it will consume lot of time and will requires research...the other option is mutual fund in which all efforts of your part is taken care off by a professional...

Dear Friend, since the stock market is yet to show stability, it is advisable to invest in mutual funds, that too regularly SIP mode.

Also, since almost all the large cap stocks are trading at a very discounted rates, same can be purchased for long term purposes.

It depends on you risk taking capacity. But mutual fund is less riskier as compared to Stocks. To get in and out information on stocks and mutual you can refer to Dalal Street Investment journal's Market Section.

I don't think Mutual Funds are any less riskier... Just check what happened to funds from JM Mutual Fund. All of them lost more than 70%.

I guess, with both stocks as well as mutual funds, one needs to be careful while selecting what to invest in.
